Play Areas Under Threat

North Herts Council appears to be backing down on plans to close 14 children’s play areas across the area, including those at Betjemen Road, Farrier Court, and Ivel Farm in Royston.

In the face of local opposition and a petition organised by the Liberal Democrats, they are now proposing to keep these play areas open but spend no money on new equipment for them. They plan to ask the Town Council if they will take them over. This of course means that the play areas will eventually be closed when the equipment wears out – unless the Town Council agrees to pay up.

The Council also plans to spend only “limited” amounts on sites at Meridian, Studlands Rise, and York Way.
