Susan van der Ven Cycleway Talk and Fish and Chip Supper

10th September 2017 by Phil Comments Off on Susan van der Ven Cycleway Talk and Fish and Chip Supper

On Thursday, October the 19th, popular local County Councillor Susan van der Ven will speak about The Royston-Melbourn Pedestrian/Cycle Link: Cracking and Connecting the County Border at Coombes Community Centre, Burns Road, Royston, SG8 5PT, from 8pm-9:30pm. Please contact Carol on carol_stanier@hotmail.com for tickets, or see the event’s page on Eventbrite (follow that link).

Separated by an administrative county border, Royston and Melbourn sit in close proximity and share a great deal of travel to and fro. A safe off-road connection for walkers, cyclists and mobility scooters would be transformative to daily life.

In 2013 the A10 Corridor Cycling Campaign was formed to create a Cambridge-Royston cycle route, with huge support from Royston residents. Even in the age of austerity, most of the route has now been funded or built – with the final stretch to Royston in sight. Key to success is total collaboration, and persuading the funders to see beyond administrative domains to a common cause.

The talk will be accompanied by a fish and chip, chicken and chips, or veggie burger and chips supper. Please email your choice to carol_stanier@hotmail.com or we will be unable to provide you with food on the night.

Local Election Results

5th May 2017 by Phil Comments Off on Local Election Results

Results are now coming in for the local elections yesterday, and we are very happy to note that Liberal Democrat candidate Steve Jarvis has taken the Royston West and Rural Herts County Council seat from the Conservatives. In addition, Liberal Democrat Susan van de Ven held her Melbourn seat in the Cambridgeshire County Council elections. The Royston Crow has details.

In many other seats at different levels across the area, the Lib Dems candidate achieved solid second place positions, confirming our status as the only credible challengers to the Conservatives – something to bear in mind at the General Election next month.

The Number 26 Bus

18th April 2017 by Phil Comments Off on The Number 26 Bus

Stagecoach have announced that they are going to reinstate an hourly service for the number 26 bus, starting at Royston and terminating at Trumpington Park and Ride, Cambridge, for off-peak journeys. This trial of a new route is entirely dependent on strong ridership. According to Stagecoach, the previous hourly 26 service would have needed an additional 300 passengers per day to make it commercially viable; the new route could prove more successful. The new timetable will commence at the end of July.
